10 Things You Didn’t Know About Newsome

Newsome is the chosen temperature and humidity control partner of businesses across many industries. Our technical knowledge and years of experience help us provide qualified insight into heating, humidity control and process cooling.

But there’s more to Newsome than this. Read on to discover 10 things you may not have known about us.

1. Newsome has been operating since 1973.

We have been providing advice, equipment and services in temperature and humidity control for almost 50 years.

Our proven ability to cater personalised solutions has built us long-term relationships with some of the biggest names in the industrial and commercial sectors.

Through our work we’ve collected an impressive portfolio of household-name clients – including Nestlé, Cadbury, McVities, ConvaTec, BASF, Magna, and Total.

2. We don’t just sell, we offer rental equipment too.

Save costs and stay flexible with Newsome’s budget-friendly rental options. Whether you need to keep things cool, heat things up, or control moisture in a manufacturing or commercial setting – rental equipment can respond to your changing needs.

We offer long and short-term, planned and emergency hire equipment. We even make it possible to exchange units during essential service, maintenance, and downtime. Renting is a great way to ‘try before you buy’ – giving you peace of mind that you are investing in the right equipment for your business.

3. We’re constantly investing and growing.

Newsome is dedicated to keeping up with the latest and greatest heating, cooling, and humidity control technology. To facilitate this continued growth, we recently moved into a new 30,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility in Elland, West Yorkshire.

Growth can be found in every corner at Newsome. As well as investing in a new eco-friendly chiller fleet, solar energy, and electric vehicles, we’ve recently expanded our team  – welcoming more industry experts into the company.

4. We don’t just offer cooling equipment.

We understand that you still need to be able to control the temperature once winter begins. A cold snap can do as much damage to equipment, processes, and products as a heatwave.

We’re constantly innovating and investing to keep providing industry-leading temperature control solutions throughout the colder months as well as the summer. This winter, we’re introducing a brand-new rental fleet of heating products to add to our comprehensive offering.

With our contingency plans, swift emergency response, and 24/7 customer service, we’re always here to lend a helping hand.

5. We’re experts in humidity control.

While we’re best known for our coolers and chillers, we’re also experts in humidity control.

Through our work with DST, we supply humidity control units for hire and sale. Whether you need to prevent condensation and ice formation over a long-term basis, keep sensitive products moisture-free to prevent bacteria, or dry out a building – we have a choice of high-spec products for the job.

No job is too big or too small – with our RL-71 industrial humidifier, we’re able to offer the largest dehumidification capacity on the market. From pharmaceutical to meat processing settings, our hire or buy humidity control options get the job done.

6. We’re trusted by world-class clients.

Throughout our history in the temperature and humidity control business, we’re proud to have gathered an impressive portfolio of clients.

From world-renowned food producers to global automotive manufacturers, our list of successful past projects is full of familiar names.

As part of our 30-year relationship with one of the world’s most successful confectionary companies, we developed a process to help chocolate mature quicker. The technology was so efficient at the York factory that it is now applied at its other sites around the globe.

7. We have production-line technical expertise.

The Newsome team are no strangers to technical environments related to a variety of industries. We have worked with clients in:

  • HVAC and Building Services
  • Food and Beverage Production
  • Engineering
  • Chemical & Pharmaceutical
  • Leisure
  • Medical & Scientific
  • Metalworks
  • Plastics and Rubber
  • Farming and Agriculture

As part of our recent work with VDL Agrotech, we devised a process to dry out poultry farm waste – creating a valuable fertiliser from what was otherwise a nuisance. As well as removing a source of flies and reducing harmful ammonia gas production in the environment, our solution was time, labour, and cost-saving.

Unique challenges like these call for Newsome’s adaptable wisdom to create innovative solutions.

8. We’re committed to a sustainable future.

For us at Newsome, putting sustainability into action is just as important as spreading the word.

Our constantly evolving business model always makes room to address our environmental impact. From solar power to electric cars, we practice what we preach by investing in renewable power.

Being sustainability-focused has environmental benefits. It also future-proofs our own and our clients’ businesses. Along our journey towards Net Zero, we’re keen to help our partners to keep costs low and promote their own energy efficiency.

9. We can handle any environment and process.

Our work across industries has made us adaptable and versatile, so we’re able to respond to any need. Unusual and challenging environments and processes are our speciality.

Our work controlling the air temperature around the Emley Moor Mast is an example of our ability to rise to unique challenges.

At 329 metres, the mast is taller than the Eiffel tower and Grade II-listed. The iconic transmission tower requires careful maintenance. Newsome was only too happy to be part of the work to preserve a local landmark on the West Yorkshire skyline.

10. We celebrate our team’s skills – both in and outside of work.

We don’t just celebrate our team’s expertise in temperature and humidity control, we celebrate their out-of-work passions too.

From tractors to professional rugby, the Newsome team are full of knowledge and skills.

Peter Waddington, one of our Technical Support Engineers, is a space enthusiast who designs and builds working model rockets. He has even launched a scaled model of an AMRAM missile, which reached 6,000 feet in height.

Rob Hatfield has a more out-of-the-box interest. In his spare time, he plays underwater hockey.
