Ambient Air Free Coolers
Free coolers are a type of ambient cooler that utilises cold ambient air instead of a traditional chiller system to transfer heat away from unwanted areas providing a cost-effective cooling solution. By utilising cooler ambient air, these free coolers and chillers reduce the cooler’s running costs by reducing the chiller’s electrical consumption. In essence, free cooling ambient coolers are providing free cooling from the air all around. This use of naturally cooler air results in a greener cooling solution, reducing energy costs and carbon emissions. Despite the simplicity of the concept, free coolers still embrace the latest cooling technology and are provided with Smart control panels with air thermostats and can be integrated into chiller systems or retrofitted to existing chilled water solutions.
Dry Air Coolers

Adiabatic Coolers
Here at Newsome, we provide a range of adiabatic coolers which operate by removing unwanted heat through the evaporation of water in a stream of warm, dry (low humidity) air. In the process of going from a liquid to a gas, the water absorbs energy in the form of heat (the latent heat of evaporation) to convert it from the liquid to the vapour phase without a change in temperature. Think of how the body cools through the process of sweating and how much cooler you feel if there is also a breeze present. The evaporated water simultaneously humidifies and cools the air stream to within a few degrees of the wet bulb temperature.
Direct Evaporative Coolers
We can provide different types of adiabatic coolers depending on the needs of your business including direct evaporative coolers. which work by blowing dry air through a water mist spray or water-soaked media pad. As the dry air passes through the mist or the pad, the evaporated water cools and humidifies the air stream. This process is called direct adiabatic cooling and can be used in space cooling applications of various sizes but can result in very moist air and higher humidity.
Indirect Evaporative Coolers
Indirect evaporative coolers work in a similar way to direct evaporative units but the air stream being cooled is separated from the outside air stream by a heat exchanger. This allows the air stream to be cooled without increasing the humidity. This process is termed indirect adiabatic cooling and is a better solution for office cooling where increased humidity in hot weather can be less comfortable.
Adiabatic Cooling Towers
Adiabatic cooling towers are air-cooled fluid coolers that use adiabatic cooling as needed when the outside air temperature is too warm for efficient heat removal and hence cooling. Adiabatic cooling towers operate like a standard air-cooled fluid cooler when outside air temperatures are low, however, their advantage is that when the outside air temperature becomes too warm, the adiabatic cooling towers switch to adiabatic mode with water evaporated into the inlet air stream to lower its temperature and provide additional cooling.
Remote Condensers
Our remote condensers use the ambient outdoor air temperature to provide commercial cooling solutions. Remote condensers are ideal for use in industrial air conditioning in addition to industrial and commercial refrigeration applications. As with all ambient cooling solutions, these units are classed as low energy making them cost-effective for long-term use. The term ‘remote condensing unit’ refers to a factory-made assembly of refrigerating components configured to compress and liquefy the refrigerant that is remotely located away from the refrigerated equipment and consists of one or more refrigerant compressors, refrigerant condensers, condenser fans and motors, and factory supplied accessories.
