Food Production & Food Processing
Specialist process cooling, commercial chillers, dehumidification, industrial heating, and temperature control solutions for the UK food production and food processing industries.
Newsome understands the challenge of creating high-quality products in a controlled food production environment. We know the importance of maintaining the temperature and humidity stability of the processing equipment as well as that of the food product and environment. Taking complete control of your process temperatures and achieving the right temperatures in the right time frames helps you ensure consistent quality 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Our expertise in temperature and humidity control solutions for food production applications will help you with cooling and temperature control for many areas including jacketed vessels, potable water, environmental control, cooling tunnels, cooling products for packaging and temperature-controlled storage. When you choose to work with us here at Newsome you will always receive individually engineered personalised solutions, from initial consultation and design, through to commissioning and ongoing maintenance.
A recent project where we helped a global food producer manage their moisture control during manufacturing was in the production of chocolate wafers. The client we helped is a global manufacturer of branded confectionery products including chocolate-coated wafers, biscuits, cakes, and sweet snacks with facilities in the UK, Europe and worldwide. Traditionally, confectionery wafers would be oven baked which reduces the moisture content making them dry once cooled. When the chocolate coating is applied, the dry wafers absorb moisture from the chocolate which causes the chocolate to crack and discolour. To overcome this problem, traditional manufacturing methods required the wafers to be stacked in ‘books’ and stored within dedicated maturation rooms for up to two weeks to increase the moisture content. Because each wafer required airflow around the entire surface area of each individual wafer sheet, these stacked solutions required a large volume to ‘humidify’ the wafers, taking up a great deal of floor space in the factory and requiring significant energy to run the humidifiers and air handlers. This process also takes approximately 2 weeks to complete so at any one point in time 4% of the saleable stock is tied up in these maturation chambers when they could be with customers.
Working closely with the research department of this multinational confectionery company, Newsome developed an air handling and humidification system for inline wafer maturation which fulfilled all the project objectives of time and cost reduction. The Newsome solution consisted of integrating the cooling and maturation equipment and thus the humidification inline. Controlling air circulation, temperature, and humidity in this inline solution rather than in the maturation chambers reduced the need for additional product storage and double handling was eliminated thus saving significant amounts of time, money, and valuable floor space whilst delivering product consistency.
The Newsome inline solution has resulted in reducing manufacturing costs, speeding up production time, and enabling better use of factory floor space to further streamline the baking, cooling, and packaging process. For many years, Newsome Ltd has been at the forefront of providing temperature and moisture control solutions to food and drink processors and manufacturers throughout the UK and perfecting the technology used in inline wafer maturation conditioning. Over the years, our inline maturation systems have been successfully installed and commissioned worldwide in cities and countries including Chicago, Bulgaria, UK, Poland, and Italy.
Here at Newsome, we provide professional process cooling, industrial heating, boilers, dehumidifiers, and temperature control solutions for the UK food processing industry. We understand the criticality of delivering precise humidity and temperature control to your food processing operations and as such, can tailor personalised heating, chilling, or drying solutions to suit your exact manufacturing needs, be that for a single process chiller, an ambient cooler or a full turnkey heating, process cooling, and drying solution. We provide our products and integrated temperature control solutions on a hire and rental basis as well as specialising in commercial equipment sales, and pride ourselves on delivering the best sales, support, and product prices to our manufacturing clients available anywhere in the UK.
Over the last 50 years, Newsome has worked to support a wide range of customers in the food processing sector with their temperate and humidity control solutions, both by providing equipment to buy and rent on short or long-term agreements. We’ve worked alongside some large multinational food manufacturers, as well as many independent smaller producers. Our hire and sales team are on hand to consult with you, then design, project manage, and install all cooling, heating, or drying systems. The Newsome service team can give you complete maintenance and breakdown cover to support our own equipment installations as well as those installed by other manufacturers. We also offer contingency plans for all your cooling and heating equipment.
Formed in 1973 by George Newsome, we now provide consultancy, equipment, and maintenance services to many food manufacturing and food processing clients based in the UK. Our areas of expertise cover every aspect of commercial air conditioning, the supply of heaters, boilers, and dehumidifiers, alongside process chillers, cooling towers, and adiabatic coolers optimised for critical cooling applications. So, if you are looking to hire a commercial heater or an industrial chiller, or to purchase an evaporative cooler, you are in the right place.
We have become experts in exploring new process cooling, industrial heating, and commercial drying technologies, bringing these to market and developing the free cooling concept to help our food manufacturing clients reduce their food processing costs and reduce as much as possible their carbon emissions associated with temperature control in the production and processing of food products.
Our food manufacturing/ processing clients include many well-known brand names such as Nestle and McVities in addition to companies such as A-Safe, Meadowhall, BASF and Greencore plus many SMEs in the food and drinks sector located nationwide. Our technical sales, service, and hire teams are located close to the main motorway networks so we can deliver a fast response to your individual cooling, heating, dehumidification, or air con needs right across the UK thanks to our network of nationwide support partners. All this is available at very short notice when required.
