Plastics & Rubber Industry
Specialist process cooling, commercial chillers, dehumidification, industrial heating, and temperature control solutions for the UK plastics and rubber industries.
Temperature and moisture control are key to creating the consistency you need in any plastics and rubber process. Here at Newsome, we provide professional process cooling solutions, industrial heating systems, commercial boilers, various sizes of industrial and commercial dehumidifiers, and an extensive range of temperature control solutions for the UK plastics and rubber industry. We understand the criticality of delivering precise humidity and temperature control to your plastics and rubber processing operations and as such, can tailor personalised heating, cooling/chilling or drying solutions to suit your exact needs, be that for a single process chiller, a packaged chiller, an ambient cooler, or a full turnkey heating, process cooling, and drying package. We can also design and deliver heat recovery and free cooling solutions to help you reduce your energy costs and carbon emissions. We provide our products and integrated temperature control solutions both on a hire and rental basis, as well as specialising in commercial equipment sales and pride ourselves on delivering the best sales, support, and product prices to our plastics and rubber industry clients, available anywhere in the UK.
The team at Newsome has worked extensively in the plastics and rubber sector over the last 40+ years, so you can be sure to receive the best commercial solution for both your technical requirements and financial considerations. We can help you with temperature and humidity control solutions in the following areas: injection moulding, extrusion, blow moulding, vacuum, and thermoforming.
Injection and blow moulding operations utilise thermoplastics which are heated to plasticity and shaped into forms using a mould. During this process, if moisture is present in the raw material it boils, releasing vapour that can cause both structural and cosmetic imperfections to the finished product. To ensure that the end product is defect-free, raw materials must be free of moisture before being processed. Many of today’s plastic resins are hygroscopic (high affinity for absorbing moisture).
To reduce forming time and increase production volumes, the majority of systems employ the use of chilled water to reduce the mould temperature. Generally, the cooler the mould, the faster the process cycle. However, operating at low mould temperatures will create problems with condensation, especially in summer. This can result in unacceptable watermarks on the product as well as corrosion of expensive moulds and guide pins, necessitating repair or replacement.
The problem can easily be overcome by simply increasing the mould surface temperature. However, as this will result in longer cycle times and reduced output, it is not the ideal solution. By incorporating a desiccant dehumidifier, the air dewpoint can be controlled. Lower mould temperatures can then be achieved without the risk of condensation. Desiccant dehumidifiers are also used when storing expensive moulds. There is no need to waste time and effort greasing the moulds prior to storage. If the relative humidity is maintained below 45%, moulds can be stored safely without risk of rust formation (irrespective of store temperature).
In addition to a number of dehumidification projects in the sector, we recently completed a project for a client where within eight weeks from concept approval to commissioning, our team installed a Free Cooler system which saves £40,000 per annum through reducing energy consumption by 70%.
The Newsome team has a thorough understanding of the technical challenges of every aspect of the plastics and rubber industries. All our temperature and moisture control solutions begin with a clear understanding of your specific manufacturing process and temperature/moisture control needs through a detailed site consultation. This ensures we can design a tailored system for you, one that helps you benefit from optimised production and minimal ongoing costs. We can handle the whole project for you, from design concept to commissioning, then continue to support you with technical advice, repairs, spare parts, and ongoing maintenance.
Over the last 40+ years, Newsome has worked to support a wide range of customers in the plastics and rubber production sectors with a varied portfolio of heating, cooling, and drying applications. We’ve worked alongside some large multi-national plastic product manufacturers, as well as many independent smaller producers in the rubber processing industry. Our knowledgeable hire and sales team are on hand to consult with you, then design, project manage, and install all cooling, heating, or drying systems. The Newsome service team can give you complete maintenance and breakdown cover to support our own equipment installations as well as those installed by other manufacturers. We also offer contingency plans for all your cooling, heating, and dehumidification equipment.
Formed in 1973 by George Newsome, the company now provides consultancy, equipment, and maintenance services to many manufacturing and processing clients based in the UK. Our areas of expertise cover every aspect of commercial air conditioning, the supply of heaters, boilers, and dehumidifiers alongside process chillers optimised for critical cooling applications. So, if you are looking to hire a commercial heater or an industrial chiller, or to purchase an evaporative cooler, you are in the right place.
We have become experts in exploring new technologies, bringing these to market and developing the free cooling concept to help our plastics and rubber clients reduce their processing costs and reduce as much as possible their carbon emissions associated with temperature control in the production of plastics and rubber products.
Our clients include many well-known companies across a broad spectrum of industries including companies such as A-Safe, Meadowhall, BASF, Nestle, McVities, and Greencore, in addition to many SMEs located nationwide. Our technical sales, service, and hire teams are located close to the main motorway networks so we can deliver a fast response to your individual cooling, heating, dehumidification, or air con needs right across the UK thanks to our network of nationwide support partners. All this is available at very short notice when required.
